The device has male and female parts in which two ends of an optical fiber are held. One of the ends is held by a set of jaws (14) in support on a side of a mandrel (16). An outer side (19) of the jaw is polished to obtain a surface state permitting maximum contact with an outer side (20) of a jaw (21) of the female part. A channel is in communication with a chamber containing a cleaning fluid.
