The method involves providing an estimator (15) with inputs for receiving data related to speed of an internal combustion engine, fuel flow and air flow in an inlet circuit (2). A pre-processing module of the estimator calculates a variable representing a convection coefficient of a turbine. A neural network of the estimator receives the variable and the data to output an estimation of temperature of exhaust gas of the engine. An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine having a system for estimating temperature of exhaust gas of the engine.
