PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect address data with a high reliability from a recording medium of a land and groove recording type on which the address data are recorded by using a wobble modulation system. SOLUTION: The gray codes of the land address and groove address are detected (S10), and the gray codes are converted (S12, S22) into binary codes. The groove address is compared (S14, S16) with the land address excluding the data at the first "0" bit position (data unfixed position) of the binary code of the land address, or the gray code of the groove address is compared (S24, S26) with the land address excluding the data at the first "1" bit position (data unfixed position) of the binary code of the groove address.
