PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical scanner and an image forming apparatus in which the deterioration of such optical characteristic as subscanning beam pitch is suppressed, optical components are easily laid out and a stable beam spot diameter is available even when the focal length of a line image optical system is shortened and the opening angle between luminous fluxes is small. SOLUTION: The optical scanner has: optical systems 2 and 6 which couple the luminous fluxes from a plurality of light sources 1 and 5; the line image optical systems 4 and 8 which focus the luminous fluxes from coupling optical systems into lines extending along a direction corresponding to a main scanning; an optical deflector 9 which deflects the luminous fluxes in the vicinity of a linear focusing part on a deflection and reflection face; a plurality of scanning optical systems 100 and 110 which focus a plurality of luminous fluxes deflected with the optical deflector as light spots on respective corresponding planes to be scanned 12. In the optical scanner, the plurality of luminous fluxes guided to different planes to be scanned and advancing to the optical deflector have an opening angleθwith each other in a deflection and rotation plane, and at least one of line image optical systems 4 and 8 is arranged to be dislocated with respect to the luminous flux in a main scanning plane.
