PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a base for the skin, which has excellent applicability to the skin and sense of use, provides the skin with proper moistening feeling, is safe and useful for a therapeutic agent for the skin, skin detergent, ointment, patch, agent for nasal cavity, ear drop, eye drop, skin cosmetic, etc. SOLUTION: The base for the skin comprises aβ-glucan having 1,000-4,600,000 weight-average molecular weight and 0.5-10,000 mPa S viscosity of 1 wt.% aqueous solution at 36°C.
