PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a print data compression system suitable for reducing first printout time or printing time.

SOLUTION: A host terminal 100 calculates the shares of the host terminal 100 and a printer 200, creates intermediate print data based on the calculated shares and document data, selects from a plurality of compression algorithms a compression algorithm suitable for the intermediate print data according to the calculated shares, compresses the intermediate print data according to the selected compression algorithm, and sends the compressed print data to the printer 200. When receiving the compressed print data the printer 200 expands the compressed print data received, creates print data according to the expanded intermediate print data, and performs printing according to the print data created.
