STEEL WIRE FOR MUSICAL INSTRUMENT STRING, AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel wire for a musical instrument string which has much superior sound quality and its manufacturing method.

SOLUTION: The content of phosphor in the steel wire is 0.015-0.050 mol.% and a total decarburized layer thickness defined by microscopic decarburization depth measurement shown by JIS G 0558 is≤2μm. A chemical component of a piano wire material regulated by JIS G 3502 is preferable as a chemical component other than phosphor. The sound quality of the steel wire can be improved when used for a stringed instrument by at least limiting those chemical components or controlling the decarburized layer thickness.
