PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute the proper ground detection corresponding to an original manuscript as a reading target. SOLUTION: The original manuscript reader has a scanner device 70 for reading the first face of the original manuscript to be transferred and a CIS 50 for reading the second face of the original manuscript. The image data read by the scanner device 70 are subjected to the tip AE by outputting them in the reading order. The image data read by the CIS 50 are subjected to the tip AE by outputting them in the reading order or in the order opposite to the reading order. As a result, ground levels on both sides of the front and the rear can be matched and the image quality on both sides of the front and the rear can be matched, for example, even in the case of a double-sided original manuscript having a background image to which a gradation is applied.
