PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extremely high-speed image forming apparatus which outputs a stable image having high resolution without producing an abnormal image when the apparatus is repeatedly used at a high speed. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus using a light source having a≤50μm beam diameter, the charge generating layer of the apparatus contains a titanyl phthalocyanine crystal having the maximum diffraction peak at least at 27.2°as a diffraction peak of the Bragg angle 2θfor CuKαline (at 1.542Åwavelength), and further main peaks at 9.4°, 9.6°, 24.0°, a peak at 7.3°as a diffraction peak in the smallest angle side, no peak between the peaks at 7.3°and 9.4°, and a peak at 26.3°(refer to the figure), and having≤0.25μm average size of primary particles.
