PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor having excellent sensitivity characteristics and to provide its manufacturing method and an image forming apparatus equipped with the electrophotographic photoreceptor. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic photoreceptor has a photosensitive layer containing a binder resin, a hole transporting agent, an electron transporting agent and a charge generating agent. The method for manufacturing the photoreceptor, and the image forming apparatus equipped with the above electrophotographic photoreceptor are also presented. The photoreceptor contains a phenanthrene quinone compound expressed by general formula (1) as the electron transporting agent, wherein each of R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>independently represents a 1-6C substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, 6-12C substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, 6-12C substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl group, 3-10C substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkyl group or 1-6C substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy group.
