PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binder resin for toner in which a wax has been dispersed with a proper particle size distribution and a method capable of manufacturing a toner obtained using the binder resin and excellent in both fixability and filming resistance. SOLUTION: The binder resin for toner is obtained by dispersing a wax in a resin and has a softening point of 80-130°C, wherein in a particle size distribution of the wax, a particle diameter (D<SB>50</SB>) of particles at which cumulative number % becomes 50% is 0.2-2μm and a particle diameter (D<SB>90</SB>) of particles at which cumulative number % seen from the smaller particle diameter side becomes 90% is≤4μm, and a coefficient of variation (CV) of the particle size distribution of the wax: CV(%)=[standard deviation in number particle size distribution]/[number average particle diameter]×100 is 10-50%.
