PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit a signal showing an emitted light quantity to a camera body without providing a fiber passing hole to a flash unit and the camera body, and also, without inserting an optical fiber into a hinge. SOLUTION: A camera with a built-in flash unit is provided with a flash unit case 23 for holding a light emitting part and supported by the camera body 11 in a turnable manner via the hollow hinge 11A, a photoelectric conversion element 52 arranged in the case, the optical fiber 51 for guiding the light emitted from the light emitting part to the photoelectric conversion element 52 so that the element 52 can receive the light, and a lead wire 54 for connecting the photoelectric conversion element 52 and a circuit on the side of the camera body 11 while passing through the hinge 11A, and transmitting the electrical signal outputted from the photoelectric conversion element to the said circuit.
