PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a construction method for a shield tunnel capable of facilitating the construction of a safe and economical standard tunnel and an enlarged tunnel regardless of the depth, acting earth pressure/hydraulic pressure of a tunnel, shortening a construction period of time and reducing a construction cost. SOLUTION: The first shell split body 7x and the second shell split body 7y consisting of first and second skin plates 8x and 8y divided into two parts and a ring girder can be rotated with the axis of a hinge 13 inserted in a crown section Ac as the center, and the enlargement of a shape of the shell by rotating it to the outside and the reduction of a shape of the shell by rotating it to the inside are carried out. Accordingly, first and second shield machine split bodies Ax and Ay dividing a tunnel excavator body equipped with the first and second shell split bodies 7x and 7y can also reduce or enlarge a cross section by the same operation, and the shield machine has such a constitution that the cross section can be freely enlarged and reduced.
