PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine which excavates an almost square cross-section tunnel by using the operating principles of a Reuleaux triangle, and which can reduce the size and weight of a shield body. SOLUTION: In this shield machine, a cutter head 7 with three arm-like cutter parts 7b is rotatably supported in the eccentric position of a rotating plate body 4 which is rotatably provided in the front of the shield body 1; the plate body 4 is rotated in the predetermined direction via a first ring-shaped gear 11; in this case, the cutter head 7 is rotated in the reverse direction via an interlocking mechanism 9, so that the almost square cross-section tunnel can be excavated; the interlocking mechanism 9 is composed of a ring-shaped internal gear 15 which is supported on the side of the shield body 1, and a second ring-shaped external gear 17 which is mounted in the rear of a rotating shaft part 7a of the cutter head 7 so as to mesh with the gear 15; and the gear 17 is supported on the side of the plate body 4 via a base-of-revolver bearing 18.
