PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a solid state range finding image sensor that sensitivity difference is small between charge storage period and non-charge storage period, thereby makes the error large when the distance is calculated. SOLUTION: During charge storage period, three transfer electrodes 24-2 to 24-4 out of a set of transfer electrodes 24 are turned on, a potential well 30 is formed in a channel region beneath the transfer electrodes 24-2 to 24-4 and generated information charges are stored. During non-charge storage period, one transfer electrode 24-3 covered with a light shielding film 27 out of the set of transfer electrodes 24 is turned on, a potential well 31 is formed in a channel region beneath that transfer electrode 24-3 and generated information charges stored during charge storage period are held as they are.
