PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information providing system acquiring information through radio communication from a center server system without redownloading local information acquired in advance. SOLUTION: The local information management section 16 of a mobile information terminal 1 involves: accessing the center server system 2; extracting the local information specified by an operation from the center server system for acquisition; and storing the local information as well as the genre of the acquired local information, and effective range information indicative of a retrieval region range on a local information storage section 13. In another chance, when the operator instructs the retrieval of the local information, determination is made to see whether or not the local information involves the instructed retrieval region range and the genre based on the stored effective range information, preventing the repeated download of the same local information.
