摘要 A novel optical network simulation apparatus is disclosed for simulating a fiber optic link of a fiber optic network. In a first embodiment, an optical attenuator and two variable chromatic dispersion devices are used for imparting an attenuation and positive and negative chromatic dispersion, respectively, for an optical signal propagating from an input port to an output port of the optical network simulation apparatus. In a second embodiment, a polarization mode dispersion optical device is disposed between the input port to an output port of the optical network simulation apparatus in order to additionally provide polarization mode dispersion to the optical signal propagating from the input port to the output port of the optical network simulation apparatus. A microcontroller is used to control the components within the optical network simulation apparatus in order to perform the simulation for a plurality of different wavelengths.
