A locking catch, e.g. for a vehicle door, rear hatch, engine cover etc., has a pivot mounted locking catch (8) with a profiled grip jaw (9) to lock onto a locking stub (4) whose overall width is greater than that of the jaw by use of an elastic element (17). The elastic element is fitted onto a flat (16) and comprises a metal leaf spring whose ends are located into sockets each side of the flat. The curvature of the spring extends beyond the profile of the stub and securely grip the inside of the locking jaw.
