A communications apparatus includes a network connection unit and a control unit. The control unit controls the communications apparatus to transmit a present message indicating presence on a network after connection to the network by the network connection unit. The control unit also controls the communications apparatus to transmit an absent message indicating separation from the network before transmitting the initial present message when connection to the network is established using the network connection unit.
