<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid a phenomenon that an ink feed operation is repeated at sub tanks provided for one head for ejecting inks of two colors, when a series of ink feed operation including feeding of an ink to only one of the tanks and simultaneous head suction from both of them is performed according to a signal indicating that there is no ink in one of the tanks, and, after the feed operation, the other sub tank having ink runs out of the ink. <P>SOLUTION: When one of the two sub tanks 15A and 15B for one head 14, the sub tank 15A runs out of the ink, head is kept sucked until the other sub tank 15B runs out of the ink.
