<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method, system and program for detecting a top of head in a robust way by detecting the boundary between the top of head and its background with precision and high speed. <P>SOLUTION: The method for detecting the top of head of the human face from within an image containing the human face includes detecting the human face, setting a crown detection window at the top of the human face, calculating the feature quantity of the image within the top of head detection window vertically, and setting a position where the feature quantity varies beyond a threshold as the top of head of the human face.
