METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR HEATING STRIP

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for heating a strip that does not cause minor flaws on a rear face of the strip and can keep a heat history of the strip almost constant to reduce quality unevenness and loss to a minimum even when the strip changes suddenly in thickness or width. SOLUTION: The method and apparatus for heating the strip traveling in a fixed direction in a heating zone is characterized in that the passage of a joint of two strips different in at least one of width and thickness the heating zone makes a change of an amount of heat supply to the strip in the heating zone from the first amount of heat supply specified based on the dimension of the downstream strip of the joint to the second amount of heat supply specified based on the dimension of the upstream strip of the joint in the direction of traveling, so as to keep a temperature history of the strip almost constant before and after the joint.
