PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a green phosphor for plasma display panel having good lifespan characteristics and excellent discharge stability, and to provide the plasma display panel. SOLUTION: This green phosphor comprises: a phosphor material selected from the group consisting of Zn<SB>2</SB>SiO<SB>4</SB>:Mn, (Zn, A)<SB>2</SB>SiO<SB>4</SB>:Mn (A is an alkaline earth metal), (Ba, Sr, Mg)O<SB>-α</SB>Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>:Mn ((α) is an integer in the range of 1 to 23), MgAl<SB>x</SB>O<SB>y</SB>:Mn ((x) is an integer in the range of 1 to 10, and (y) is an integer in the range of 1 to 30), LaMgAl<SB>x</SB>O<SB>y</SB>:Tb ((x) is an integer in the range of 1 to 14, and (y) is an integer in the range of 8 to 47), and ReBO<SB>3</SB>:Tb (Re is a rare earth element selected from the group consisting of Sc, Y, La, Ce, and Gd); and an oxide material coated on the surface of the phosphor material and containing La<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and SiO<SB>2</SB>, wherein the La<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>is present in an amount of less than 2,500 ppm on the basis of the total amount of the phosphor material.
