PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveform equalizer and a record information reproducing apparatus in which a S/N ratio can be improved without causing jitter in a read signal read from a recording medium. SOLUTION: An amplitude limit value having a value corresponding to amplitude of this read signal at a sample point before and after a zero-cross point of time of the read signal read from the recording medium is generated, and waveform equalization is performed by performing filtering processing for an amplitude limit read signal obtained by performing amplitude limit processing with the amplitude limit value for the read signal.
