PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light reflecting member for an image display device which has high performance because of high reflection characteristics, and is low-cost and light in environmental load, and a manufacturing method therefor. SOLUTION: The light reflecting member is used for an image display device, and the member is SiO<SB>2</SB>-based oxide containing one or more kinds of alkali salt and alkali earth salt by 5 to 40 mole % and at least partially split in phase or crystallized. This oxide can partially have a reinforcing member. The reinforcing member is preferably metal and more preferably Fe-Ni-based alloy containing Ni by 38 to 55 mass %. By the method for manufacturing the light reflecting member for the image display device, oxide formed on the reinforcing member at least partially in a noncrystalline state is heated to be at least partially devitrified.
