PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material enabling a physiologically active substance to be immobilized in high yield and high in the ability to catch the physiologically active substance by magnetism. SOLUTION: The material is magnetic composite particles being such one that the surfaces of ferromagnetic iron oxide particles are provided each with a coating layer formed by crosslinking a polymer having functional groups reactive with a physiologically active substance, wherein the functional groups remain in the coating layer and the proportion of the coating layer to the ferromagnetic iron oxide particles is≤10 wt.%. Particularly, the coating layer is formed by the crosslinking reaction of the polymer with a compound reactive with at least two of the functional groups in the polymer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
