PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact image forming apparatus which outputs a stable image having high resolution without producing an abnormal image when the apparatus is repeatedly used at a high speed. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a non-contact type electrifying means in proximity disposition so that the gap between the photoreceptor surface and the surface of an electrifying member is≤100μm, and with an exposure means having≥600 dpi resolution. The apparatus has≥30 (V/μm) electric field intensity defined by (surface potential V in an unexposed part of the photoreceptor in a developing position/film thicknessμm of the photosensitive layer). The charge generating layer of the apparatus contains a titanyl phthalocyanine crystal having the maximum diffraction peak at least at 27.2°as a diffraction peak of the Bragg angle 2θfor CuKαline (at 1.542Åwavelength), and further main peaks at 9.4°, 9.6°, 24.0°, a peak at 7.3°as a diffraction peak in the smallest angle side, and no peak between the peaks at 7.3°and 9.4°, and having≤0.25μm average size of primary particles.
