A support device (10) for providing support to a plurality of articles such as files (32), each of which has a spine (34) and opposed covers connected to opposed edges of the spine, arranged side-by-side on and extending upwardly from a support surface (38). The support device (10) includes compartment defining means (12) defining a plurality of operatively downwardly and forwardly open compartments (28) within each of which an upper portion of at least one file (32) to be supported is snugly receivable. This arrangement inhibits relative lateral movement of the upper portions of the files (3)2 thereby retaining the files in position.
