<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parking lock device for an electric automobile which can release parking lock with small operating force, by relieving the engagement load, using a simple constitution. <P>SOLUTION: A lock gear 11 and a rotor 17 are coupled with each other and a stator 16 and a lock pin 12 are arranged, so that the center of the notch 13 of the lock gear 11 of a parking lock device 9 and the center of the engaging projection 14 of the lock pin 12 may be aligned with each other, in stable balance state that stator salient poles 16tu and 16tu, provided at the internal circumference of the stator 16 of a switched reluctance motor 3 and rotor salient poles 17ta and 17tc, provided around the rotor 17 are counterposed to each other. While engagement load works on the engaging projection 14, the stator salient poles 16tu and 16tu are energized to slightly rotate the rotor 17 thereby materializing a stable balance state.
