<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal comprising a transmitting/receiving module which can be attached/detached, replaced and added, and an element device which can be attached/detached and replaced and capable of communicating with an optimal transmitting/receiving module through an optimal element device depending on the situation. <P>SOLUTION: When a transmitting/receiving module 20<SB>1 to n</SB>is attached, a hardware configuration monitoring section 60 notifies a software switching control section 90 of this effect and brings corresponding software into an available state. A system detecting section 130 monitors an output from a demodulator 100 while switching the software to the software switching control section 90 thus determining which transmitting/receiving module is preferably used. The system detecting section 130 delivers an instruction for making a switch to software corresponding to that transmitting/receiving module to the software switching control section 90.
