PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a unified analysis method to grasp the conditions of oil pollution of soil, or to estimate the decontamination capacity and decontamination level by a clarification method for oil in soil. SOLUTION: An oil content in soil is extracted by dichloromethane and then exchanged with a solvent that does not absorb infrared light. After clean-up, the total amount of the oil content is measured by an infrared absorptiometric method (IR). The solution extracted by dichloromethane is fractionated into an saturated content, aromatic content, resin content, and asphaltene content by thin layer chromatography and flame ionization detector (TCL/FID). In addition the solvent of the solution extracted by dichloromethane is exchanged with cyclohexane. After clean-up, the amount of each of polycycle aromatic compounds (PAHs) is determined by gas chromatography and mass analyzer (CG/MS). Therefore, the oil content in soil is analyzed multifunctionally. Furthermore, by screening sample soil and using soil not greater than 1 mm, variations in measured values are improved.
