PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal apparatus in which a desired operating mode can be made to correspond to a data pattern of optional acceleration inputted by a user himself/herself and can be registered, and an operation control method for the same. SOLUTION: When a CPU 18 starts a registration mode for making acceleration data correspond to an operating mode and registering them by the manipulation of a manipulation section 20, the user inputs an optional motion of the portable terminal apparatus, an acceleration detection section 7 detects acceleration corresponding to the motion and output acceleration data, and the acceleration data are converted into digital data by an A/D converter 17. When a desired operating mode made to correspond to the acceleration data is selected by the manipulation section 20, the CPU 18 makes the acceleration data converted into the digital data correspond to the selected operating mode and registers them in an acceleration pattern registration section 19b of a storage section 19.
