PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately perform the troubleshooting of a turbine rotational speed sensor used in place of a primary rotational speed sensor. SOLUTION: A forward/backward switching mechanism having a clutch is installed between a torque converter and a primary pulley. The turbine rotational speed sensor detecting the rotational speed Nt of a turbine shaft is installed on the input side of the forward/backward switching mechanism, and a secondary rotational speed sensor detecting the rotational speed Ns of a secondary shaft is installed on the output side of the forward/backward switching mechanism. When the rotational speed Nt indicates a stopped state (S4) despite the fact that the torque converter is in an operated state (S3) under the condition that the clutch is determined to be disengaged, the turbine rotational speed sensor is determined to be troubled (S6). On the other hand, when one of the rotational speeds Nt and Ns indicates a rotating state and other other indicates a stopped state (S7) under the condition that the clutch is determined to be engaged, the turbine rotational speed sensor is determined to be troubled (S6).
