PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To composite an overwrite image with a background image in a state in which the composite image is harmonized with the whole background image. SOLUTION: A video coder 21 decodes an image signal supplied from an image input part 12 and supplies the obtained video data (background image) to an image storage part 22. A controller 23 generates the overwrite image based upon control information from a control part 11 and supplies it to the image storage part 23. A generation part 25 detects the chromaticity and blending ratio of the overwrite image stored in the image storage part 23 corresponding to the luminance of the background image stored in the image storage part 22 and composites the overwrite image with the background image with the detected chromaticity and blending ratio. The generation part 25 outputs the composite display image to a display 14 and makes the display 14 display the image. This invention is applicable to an equalizer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
