PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which outputs a stable image having high resolution without producing an abnormal image when the apparatus is repeatedly used at a high speed. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a scorotron type electrifying means, an exposure means with≥600 dpi resolution, a developing means, a transfer means and an electrophotographic photoreceptor and is operated at≥300 mm/sec line velocity of the photoreceptor. The photoreceptor has at least a charge generating layer and a charge transport layer successively layered on a conductive support. The charge generating layer contains a titanyl phthalocyanine crystal having the maximum diffraction peak at least at 27.2°as a diffraction peak of the Bragg angle 2θfor CuKαcharacteristic X-rays, and further main peaks at 9.4°, 9.6°, 24.0°, and a peak at 7.3°as a diffraction peak in the smallest angle side, and having≤0.25μm average size of primary particles.
