PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin which is good in dyeability for a cationic dye and which is suited for a fiber applicable even to the use where flame retardancy and lightfastness are required, and to provide such a polyester fiber. SOLUTION: The polyester resin is the one: in which 80 mol% or more of the repeating units constituting the polyester are ethylene terephthalate units; which is copolymerized with a component containing a sulfonate group so as for it to be 0.5-5 mol% based on the total acid component of the polyester and with a chosen organic phosphorus compound so as for it to be 5,000-15,000 ppm as a content of the phosphorus atoms in the polyester; in which the content of diethylene glycol is≤5 mol%; and in which the thermal mass change starting temperature under nitrogen atmosphere at the temperature elevation of 10°C/min is≥410°C. A fiber, at least the surface layer of which is formed with the above polyester resin, is also preferable. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
