An aqueous adhesive (I), for temporary adhesion of pieces of laminate material to a substrate, is mixed with a cleaving agent (II) which reduces the internal cohesion of (I) after drying sufficiently (relative to that in the absence of (II) to allow subsequent removal of the pieces from the substrate by breakdown of cohesion, before the laminate material tears under the detachment force. Independent claims areis included for: (1) the use of metal soaps as as cleaving agent additives (II) for adhesives (I) as above; (2) a corresponding adhesion method using the (I)/(II) mixtures; (3) articles to which a laminate material is temporarily adhered using the (I)/(II) mixtures; and (4) a method for removing the adhered laminate pieces, by cleaving the dried (I)/(II) mixtures by cohesion breakage using a liquid jet.
