<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric ceramic having a large Q<SB>max</SB>in a fundamental wave thickness sliding vibration mode e.g. at 8 MHz, and a piezoelectric element such as a resonator having the piezoelectric ceramic as a piezoelectric material. <P>SOLUTION: The piezoelectric ceramic has a ceramic particle which essentially comprises a bismuth layered compound which contains at least Ba, Sr, Ln (provided that Ln is a lanthanoid element), Bi, Ti and O and contains an M<SP>II</SP>Bi<SB>4</SB>Ti<SB>4</SB>O<SB>15</SB>crystal (wherein M<SP>II</SP>is an element composed of Ba, Sr and Ln) and contains an Mn oxide and a Ge oxide as accessory components. The ceramic particle has an average particle size of 0.4-3.2 μm. The piezoelectric element has the piezoelectric ceramic as the piezoelectric material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
