PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slidable portable terminal having first and second casings which has an automatic extending/contracting mechanism not needing a lock release key, can be operated so as to expand/contract by a single hand even by a user with a small palm, is excellent in operability, small in size, and excellent in portability. SOLUTION: The portable terminal has a first casing 1 and a second casing 2 which are slidably coupled each other, and is constituted so that it can extend/contract by relatively sliding the first and second casings. The portable terminal is provided with an elastic portion 9 for energizing the portable terminal in an extending direction, and a holding portion for blocking the elastic force of the elastic portion to hold the portable terminal in a contraction state. One of the casing to be slid is slid at a predetermined distance in a direction opposite to an extending direction when the portable terminal is extended from a contraction state, thereby releasing the holding portion for holding the portable terminal in a holding state.
