PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the surface of a photoreceptor from being scratched due to that a hard foreign substance deposited on the photoreceptor surface is sandwitched between the photoreceptor and a cleaning blade in an image forming apparatus equipped with the photoreceptor driven to rotate, a charging device to charge the photoreceptor, an exposure apparatus to imagewisely expose the surface of the charged photoreceptor to form an electrostatic latent image on the photoreceptor, a developing apparatus to visualize the electrostatic latent image into a toner image, a transferring apparatus to transfer the toner image onto a transfer material, and a cleaning blade to clean the surface of the photoreceptor after the toner image is transferred. SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with a scraping roller 14 to scrape off the hard foreign substance deposited on the photoreceptor surface, the scraping roller disposed opposing to a portion of the photoreceptor surface in the downstream side of the transfer apparatus 8 and in the upstream side of the cleaning blade 12 with respect to the moving direction of the photoreceptor surface.
