PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-size, inexpensive, and highly reliable hydrogen gas sensor capable of selectively and easily detecting hydrogen gas. SOLUTION: In this hydrogen gas sensor, an amorphous alloy changing its physical value reversibly by storage/release of hydrogen is used for a sensor element. When the change of the physical value such as an electric resistance value and a circuit constant of the amorphous alloy is measured, presence/absence of hydrogen gas and/or hydrogen gas concentration are/is detected. Desirably, the sensor element is heated at least in detection of hydrogen gas. In this way, this sensor is provided with the sensor element containing hydrogen storage amorphous alloy, two or more electrodes connected to the sensor element, and a heater part for heating the sensor element.
