The tunnel kiln, for firing ceramic materials, has a thermoreactor (4) to maintain a thermal balance by after-burning a portion of the free heated gas in the kiln and give the ceramic materials an abrupt cooling. For the abrupt cooling, controlled amounts of fresh air and/or exhaust gas are mixed in. Gas from the kiln is extracted by suction through base openings (12), to be carried by a channel (16) in controlled volumes to the thermoreactor. The gas is burned and pass into a reaction chamber (21) to be taken through a cooling column and then through a filter (5) and channel (6) to the exhaust chimney. To prevent overheating, part of the hot reactor gas is taken through a setting unit (13) and channel (22) to be blown by a fan (7) back into the kiln as part of the abrupt cooling.
