PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently exchange control firmware for extending the function of a disk array device mounted with a cache mechanism including a multiplexed non-volatile cache. SOLUTION: Control information on caches 21 and 22 which is used by the individual functions of control firmware is managed by function revision for each function, control information to be used by each function on the caches 21 and 22 in exchanging control firmware 40 is confirmed by function revision, and the control information used by the individual functions of the caches 21 and 22 is succeeded and rewritten into the form of control information to be used by the individual functions of the exchanged control firmware 40.
