摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device manufacturing method by which manufacturing costs can be suppressed and an optical device in which double-refraction characteristics are less affected by heat can be obtained. <P>SOLUTION: The optical device having a base material and a first double-refraction layer formed thereon is manufactured by performing, in the following order: a coating process in which a coating film of a coating composition containing at least a polymerizable liquid crystal in which each molecule is in the shape of a rod and has two or more polymerizable functional groups is formed on the base material; an alignment process in which the polymerizable liquid crystal in the coating film is homeotropically aligned; and a cross-linking process in which the polymerizable liquid crystal in the coating film is three-dimensionally cross-linked while maintaining the homeotropic alignment, thereby forming the coating film into the first double-refraction index layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
