PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic vapor discharge lamp which can be constituted inexpensively, which is superior in impact characteristics, and furthermore in which a crack hardly occurs at a sealed part of an electrode support body and a narrow tube part by using a sealing material. SOLUTION: A metal halide lamp houses an arc tube in the outer tube bulb in which a base is provided at one end. The arc tube has a discharge container consisting of the main tube part, in which a pair of electrode parts are arranged in the interior and a discharge space is formed, and consisting of a cylindrical narrow tube part 175 extending from both end parts of this main tube part, and has the electrode support body 188 which supports the electrode part at the tip end part and which is sealed in a state of being inserted through the narrow tube part. The electrode support body 188 is sealed by a frit 192 which is made to flow into the narrow tube part 175, and at least this sealed part has a twisted wire structure using three molybdenum wires 188a, 188b, 188c.
