PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially advantageously producing a solvent-soluble silicone-modified polyimide resin of a high molecular weight, by preventing foaming of an imidation reaction liquid, when the silicone-modified polyimide resin soluble in a reaction solvent is produced by heating and dehydrating a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride component and a diamine component containing a siloxane-based diamine, by an azeotropic solvent procedure, to subject the components to imidation reaction. SOLUTION: This method for producing the solvent-soluble silicone-modified polyimide resin comprises heating and dehydrating the tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride component and the diamine component containing the siloxane-based diamine in the reaction solvent (A) and an azeotropic solvent to subject the components to the imidation reaction, wherein the azeotropic solvent comprises an azeotropic solvent (B) which is slightly soluble in water and the reaction solvent (A).
