Disclosed is a method for producing a modified polyolefin which is excellent in performing a function as a modifying agent for resins without deteriorating physical properties of a plastic base material composed of a thermoplastic resin, in particular one composed of a polyolefin resin. Specifically disclosed is a method for producing a modified polyolefin (D) having a melting point of 50-120˚C which is characterized in that a polyolefin (A) which comprises 15-70 mol% of an alpha-olefin (a1) having 4-12 carbon atoms, 30-85 mol% of propylene and 0-1 mol% of ethylene as the constitutional units, and an unsaturated polycarboxylic acid or a derivative thereof (B) are reacted with each other in or without the presence of a radical initiator (C).
