PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus which correctly applies maximum likelihood decoding to a reproduced signal in which nonlinear distortion such as asymmetry is present. SOLUTION: An information reproducing apparatus uses the maximum likelihood decoding for calculating the likelihood of the reproduced signal value obtained from a recording medium to two or more reference values, and decodes the reproduced signal on the basis of the likelihood. The information reproducing device includes: an asymmetry detector for detecting two or more discrimination values corresponding to the asymmetry of the reproduced signal from the reproduced signal obtained from the recording medium; a judgment part 30 for judging to which level range between the discrimination values the reproduced signal belongs; a calculation part 31 for normalizing the reproduced signal on the basis of the judgment result of the judgment part, the reproduced signal, and the two or more discrimination values, and obtaining the likelihood of the normalized reproduced signal value.
