PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image scanner capable of suppressing adhesion of dirt and causing of damage to a white reference member used for shading correction. SOLUTION: The image scanner is provided with: a butt member 60 which butts a carried original; a white reference tape 64 located at a downstream side of the butt member 60 in the original carrying direction at a position lower than a carrying face 60a of the butt member 60 by one stage; and a CIS 50 located in opposition to the white reference tape 64 and for reading an image of the white reference tape 64 or the carried original. In the case of reading the original, the original is carried in a state of being floated from the white reference tape 64 at the read position of the original by the CIS 50, that is, not in contact with the white reference tape 64 so as to prevent the adhesion of dirt of the original and causing of a damage by the original to the white reference tape 64.
