PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recording contents that reduces the cumbersome operations of upgrading contents; content recording software; upgrade software; content history information; a hybrid recording medium; and an extensive recording medium. SOLUTION: Content identification information 41, recording medium identification information 42, upgrade software 43, content recording software 44, content history information 30x, a content recording folder 45 and the like are previously recorded in a ROM area 11. With an update, content history information 30y resulting from updating the content history information 30x in the ROM area 11 and a content recording folder 51 or the like are recorded in a RAM area 12. Further, the contents of new versions can be added to the RAM area 12, but if the RAM area is insufficient, area extension information 61 is recorded to prevent addition of the contents and to record the contents in an extensive recording medium 2.
